2008 – A Great Club Year

The Weymouth and Portland MDC once again had an amazing year with some

great finds being displayed on the finds table on club nights.

We raised over £2000 for charity with rallies in Wiltshire and South Northamptonshire.

Our membership continues to grow with over 70 members, sixty of whom regularly attend club meetings.

We once again had a brilliant club Xmas draw with thanks being given to

Maxine and Stuart Palfreman who arranged it all.

Winner of the Detectorist of the year was Dave Cobb with his amazing finds each month,

he also won Artefact of the year with a beautiful strapend.

Coin of the year was won by Stuart Palfreman with a stunning Atrebates Celtic quater stater

found at our Wiltshire rally last year.

Club person of the Year went to Chairman Paul Rainford on a vote by all members present at the A.G.M.

Membership of the club is normally open to responsible detectorist's who live within traveling distance of the club,

and who can regularly attend club meetings.

Would members and visitors to the area please note that we have a 'gentleman's agreement not to detect on the main Weymouth beach during summer months between the hours of 9-30 am and 5-30pm.

Your help in keeping to this agreement is appreciated.

Well Done

To James Brannan for coming to the rescue of a damsel in distress.

James and Roy went out to help a couple who lost a gold diamond engagement ring

while visiting a farm. It took a detectorists trained eye to find it, gleaming in the bright sun,  near the farmhouse before the detectors had even been setup.

Any more good news stories – write them down and hand them in at the next meeting, it all helps to put our hobby in a good light.

Come on – Own up!

To whom it may concern

Weymouth Metal Detecting Club members are tonight enjoying their

annual meal at the Coach and Horses. The meal has gone ahead despite some sad,
pathetic, individual writing to the Landlord and canceling the meal, using my name.

I would not normally use the club forum to air my personal views, but I think on this
occasion it is justified. I can accept your sad tirade of continuing harassment against
me personally, but when it affects other club members then it becomes another matter.
The person/s involved in writing this letter must surely lead a life  of worthless inactivity,

to indulge in such childish activities. For your information the letter and envelope have
been handed over to the Dorset Police for their investigation and possible D.N.A

analysis and prosecution.  It is indeed a sad day when you have to use your

energies in such a destructive way.
Paul Rainford - Club Chairman 11.1.08.

A happy new year to all our readers. Don't forget the club meal this coming Friday
(11.1.08 ) at the coach and horses Winterbourne Abbas 7 for 7-30pm eats. The club A.G.M. is on the 21.1.08. where we will have the trophies for Artifact of the year, Coin of the year, Detectorist of the year, and club person of the year. Any changes to club rules etc. please submit them to me in writing before the A.G.M. May I wish you all a very happy and prosperous new year, and may you all be blessed with great finds. P.S. club subs are now due for 2008
