On the morning of Saturday 2nd September myself and club members James Brannan, Frank Long, and Christopher Tucker descended on the Dorset County show at Dorchester. We were soon joined by another club member Peter Adcock.

The main purpose of the event was to try and gain valuable land to detect on from the many farmer's who attend the show each year. We achieved this aim by getting four definite contacts as well as five others who have promised to get back to us.

Using an idea from Frank we ran a highly successful 'hunt the coin' exercise using a makeshift beach from a tarpaulin and builders sand remarkably looking like Weymouth beach. The event was huge success with queues of children waiting to take part. For 20p each child left with at least two coins, or a ring, hat, or pen.

£34.40 was raised for the club funds for this great PR exercise.

We also had a raffle prize to win a brand new Garrett detector which was won by Mr. Andy Mckee from Tincleton, near Dorchester. This also raised over £120 for club funds.

On the Sunday we were joined by replacement club members, Reg Wallace, Jim Walmsley, and Duncan Clarke whose help and good humour were greatly appreciated.

Best laugh of the weekend was provided by Chris Tucker who had this young chap unsuccessfully trying to locate the coins in the sand pit. After a few minutes of trying the problem was solved...... try turning on the detector first Chris!

Nearly as funny was the club Chairman landing on his ample backside  when Frank's chair decided to give up the ghost!

Despite horrendous weather on the Saturday the event was huge success, so many thanks to all those that took part, see you next year?

Regards to you all Paul.
