Annual Awards for 2005

On 13th January 2005, 40 club members and their partners enjoyed a great meal at The Coach and Horses, Winterbourne Abbas. The club was celebrating a stunning year of detecting successes. Winners of the club awards for 2005 were as follows:

Coin of the Year: Henry VI gold noble, 1422-61, found by Mike Pittard.

Artefact of the Year: An Iron-age horn cap, with the resing still intact. Found by Roger Evans (The B.M. are interested in acquiring this object).

Detectorist of the Year: Dave Cobb, for his many fine finds, including a Henry VI gold half-noble.

Club person of the Year: Paul Rainford, Chairman, and well-known local scrap-metal merchant.

The club certainly found plenty of gold in 2005: other finds included 4 gold staters found by Hugh Vincent, and a beautiful Elizabethan gold ring found by our youngest member, Franchesca Tracey.

To start us off well for 2006, Alan Maidment arrived at our first meeting with a beautiful gold Portuguese coin bearing the legend 'JOANNA V' and a date of 1733. So far, it's not been clearly identified.

Re-elected for 2006: Honary Life President, Dudley Paine; Chairman, Paul Rainford; P.R.O., Mark Gatter; Secretary, Mike Apps; Committee, Alan Maidment, Cris Tucker.

And may we take this opportunity to wish all fellow detectorists a prosperous 2006!

Unfortunately, due to being unable to read even a simple calendar, PRO Mark Gatter was still on holiday when the meeting took place. Therefore, there are very few pictures of the event available. If any are found later, they will be added.

Still, you probably all know what Dave Cobb looks like by now, don't you? If not, just look at the awards page for last year. And next year. And the year after that...and so on.
